Trauma Care for Forced Migrants

Ever since World War II, forced migrations have increased exponentially, shaping our world, economies, and political discussions. When the United Nations formed High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in 1950, it could not predict escalation of migration from civil unrest, personal persecution, war, recently, climate crises. As increase, we must understand emotional trauma involved, how to mitigate it. This study examined providers refugee services understand, assess, treat population. paper is based on qualitative data collected social work who with migrants. Transcribed interviews were analyzed through content analysis regarding assessment treatment approaches. The findings show that lack trauma-informed care was prevalent among participants. reflected participants’ experiences. Three main themes emerged: (1) misdiagnosed; (2) few trained evidence-based practices manage trauma; (3) felt isolated their as if working silos. These implications are discussed.
